In this Valentine’s class, we will use a variety of metal embossing techniques on lead-free pewter sheet. We are going to practice how to incorporate embellishment texture plate to add fine embossed design to various parts of the project. Learn some doodling techniques and mandalas to enrich your designs. You will also be introduced to an interesting, versatile technique for creating a chemical “etch” design. We also have a chance to complete our lovely artwork by applying a chemical patina, using a variety of paints and inks to create a colorful piece to display at home.
All supplies are included as well as the use of my studio tools.

Recycled Mosaics: Session 1
Create a mosaic using recycled materials.
This 8-hour class (over two days) will introduce you to a unique method of making mosaics with used aluminum coffee pods.
We will design and create a mosaic on either a discarded fan blade or an old vinyl record with or without a mirror. All materials and tools will be provided but bring your favorite scissors if you have them.
On the first day, we will learn about the technique, create a design, and start preparing the tesserae. On the second day, we will glue the tesserae to the chosen substrate and complete the project with sealant. If you are not finished, I will provide you with the materials to complete the project at home. All materials are non-toxic and the cutting does not require a lot of strength.
Grief Bowls - Making Space for Grief
Creating Space for Grief:
This workshop is an invitation to pause and honor our grief. Artist and therapist, Tina Wolverton will lead a workshop on creating grief bowls. The bowl is traditionally a vessel of nourishment yet it is also a symbol of emptiness. What are you carrying ? What is in your bowl? We will explore how to honor our grief through art, writing and being in safe community together. This workshop is appropriate for adults working through both individual and collective grief. Participants are asked to bring a small bowl that will be used as a mold as well as any personal mementos, collage materials, papers or thin fabric.

Have you been curious about fused glass but never tried it? Looking for a unique way to make sculptural shapes for your current fused glass artwork? This is the class for you! Modeling Glass has been quietly revolutionizing fused glass for several years. You’ll learn about the incredible creative potential of this product developed by local artist Lois Manno. Your instructor will demonstrate how to properly mix a batch of Modeling Glass and use it to make dimensional shapes without a ring saw or molds. Each student will mix their own batch of Modeling Glass to execute a flower, butterfly or other creation. All tools and supplies will be provided. Perfect for the artist at any skill level who is curious about learning a new technique, one that will help them achieve effects that currently require either complex mold-making or expensive equipment. Needing only a single firing, everyone will complete a garden of their own interpretation.

This is a fun class for all ages (8 and over). We will make 2 pair of earrings, 1 pendant and a set of 2 coasters with kiln-fired glass.
Glass Design and Fabrication: Painting, Printing, Lighting and Framing Stained Glass with Joseph Cavalieri
Renowned New York visiting artist Joseph Cavalieri is excited to teach a five-day class encompassing all aspects of making a stained glass panel, from design to production. Many samples will be made in class. Techniques covered include painting, pen-and-ink drawing, air-brushing, atomizing, and silk screening with silkscreens Joseph will provide. You don’t need to be an expert painter, as we will be tracing images in the class.
We work with non-toxic enamels that are kiln fired onto the glass surface. Copper foiling and soldering techniques, lighting and framing will be learned as well. The choice of imagery is totally up to the students’ imagination. Perfect for beginners and students that have some experience working with glass and want to expand their knowledge further.
Cavalieri will help with your design choice, share samples of his work, share a framing and lighting system which he developed, as well as present lectures on ‘Art Residencies’ and ‘Marketing for Artists.’
2.4.25: Cast Glass Hearts w/Lavae
Just in time for Valentine's Day, learn to cast glass hearts. You'll fill casting molds with sheet glass, crushed glass, frits, noodles, and stringers. You'll learn to layer the colors with clear and dichroic glasses to get brilliant combinations. Or you can embed glass flowers into the hearts. These large hearts can be hung on a provided hook, used as paper weights, or just displayed. You'll also make some pocket hearts, perfect for slipping into the pocket of someone you love. You'll make 2-3 large hearts (2” - 5”) and 2-3 small ones, as time allows. All tools, materials, and heat (kiln-firing) provided!
